Shelton Benjamin and Wrestling.

Introduction.

One of the top wrestlers in the country today is undoubtedly Shelton Benjamin. Having started wrestling whilst at school in South Carolina, he managed to accrue a fantastic 122 wins out of the 132 wrestling bouts that he had as a student. Shelton Benjamin went on to continue wrestling whilst at Junior College when apart from becoming  the Junior College wrestling champion he also won the national 100m sprint Junior College championship. Benjamin then went on tot eh University of Minnesota and after graduating was awarded a wrestling coach position with the university. Finishing sixth in the Big Ten Championship he decide, in 1997, to turn professional rather than have the chance of competing in the 2000 Olympics.

It wasn’t long before as an individual and as a tag team wrestler it became apparent that Shelton was destined to become one of the wrestling superstars. Starting his professional career with the World Wrestling Entertainment group he had tag team success with the Minnesota Stitching Crew and then the Dogg Pound. By 2002 Shelton Benjamin had progressed to the SmackDown program of wrestling, in the tag team Team Angle with Charlie Haas. A year later they were winning in WrestleMania and enjoyed a period of true wrestling superstardom.

In 2004 WWE moved Shelton Benjamin to their RAW wrestling matches during this period he went on to win the singles Intercontinental Championship as well as performing like a true wrestling superstar in tag teams. Despite remaining hugely popular with wrestling fans, Shelton suffered a loss of form through to 2006/7. 2008 saw him defeated by the legendary Shawn Michaels for the third year running in the Royal Rumble and, at present, Shelton is once again wrestling in the WWE SmackDown program.
